AISI H11 tool steel is a 5% chromium hot work tool steel that is represented by its excellent impact toughness. Chromium hot-work tool steels are designated as group H steels according to the AISI classification system, and specified in ASTM A681 standard. The most commonly used chromium hot-work steels are H11 tool steel, h12 tool steel, and H13 steel, within the series from H1 to H19. If we compare between H11 and H13, H11 tool steel consists of less vanadium than the commonly used H13 hot work tool steel. This gives H11 steels the higher toughness, with some reduction in wear resistance and temper resistance. H11 tool steel is a deep-hardening, air-hardening steel and H11 alloy steel could be deep hardened by heat treatment and air-quenching. That gives minimal size change during heat treatment. H11 how work steel also has super resistance to thermal fatigue cracking and superb resistance to gross cracking and thermal shock when water cooled in service.

H10 tool steel is one hot works tool steel in ASTM A681 standard, which is for alloy tool steel. The ASTM/AISI classifies chromium hot work tool steels as group H steels, ranging from H10, H11, h12 to H19. AISI H10 Tool Steel is one of chromium hot-work tool steel that exhibits excellent resistance to softening at elevated temperature. H10 Tool Steel is capable of being heat treated to higher hardness than the tungsten hot work steels, and in addition offers greater toughness. H10 tool steel has good thermal fatigue characteristics, and unlike the tungsten hot work steels and H10 hot work tool steels may be safely water cooled in service.

AISI h12 tool steel is a 4.75~5.5% chromium, general-purpose hot work steel. H12 tool steel contains (0.2~0.5%) less vanadium than the widely-used H13 hot works tool steel (0.8~1.2%). ASTM/AISI H12 Steel is a deep-hardening, air-hardening steel that exhibits minimal size change during heat treatmnet. H12 tool steel material has good resistance to thermal fatique cracking (heat cracking) and excellent resistnce to gross cracking and thermal shock when water cooled in service. So, we could say H-12 tool steel mainly has the following characteristics: Excellent resistance to wear, high strength at elevated temperature. Good homogenizing with high toughness. Extra- fine- structure without grain-boundary carbide. Inclusion shape controlled with high cleanliness.

Chrome–molybdenum–vanadium steel for hardening in oil and in air with very good hardenability, high firmness during the heat and resistance to the tempering, very good toughness and plastic properties during normal and also higher temperatures. Further the steel has a very good resistance to tearing of thermal fatigue and low sensitivity to quick changes of temperature. The steel is appropriate for the heat treatment also for firmness over 1800 N/mm2 and for tools cooled by water. It is well-workable during the heat and well-workable in the soft-annealed state.
